Review of HMRC's powers, deterrents and safeguards published

07 June 2010

The review of HMRC's powers, deterrents and safeguards started in 2005 and comprises consultation and legislative change with a view to providing a modern framework of law and practice for the administration of tax. The review aims to support those who seek to pay the right amount of tax while penalising heaving those who aim to gain an unfair advantage by failing to return, calculate or pay tax that is due.

A summary of the legislative provisions has been published by HMRC together with details on when the provisions came into force. The summary is available on the HMRC website
